At Nu-Gro, we are very proud that all of our products are "Efficiency Designed." Our products ensure maximum delivery of nutrients to intended plants, with minimum loss of nutrients to the environment. "Efficiency by Design" is our way of demonstrating that environmental responsibility and superior product value can go hand in hand.
NITROFORM® is a controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer with a guaranteed analysis of 38-0-0. NITROFORM can be purchased in three sizes - granular for general use, chip for fine turf, and Powder Blue® ureaform for liquid applications.
NITROFORM is produced by reacting urea with formaldehyde under carefully controlled conditions, creating intermediate long-chain polymers of methylene urea, collectively called ureaform. Approximately two-thirds of NITROFORM nitrogen is insoluble in water and needs microbial activity to be released. The remaining one-third of the nitrogen in NITROFORM is composed of water-soluble, short-chain methylene urea polymers and a slight amount of urea.
NITROFORM supplies carbon (energy) and nitrogen (food) to microbes in the soil. This process is unlike that of most other nitrogen fertilizers, where carbon is chemically converted to CO2 and lost to the atmosphere - a great waste of energy. Also unlike other nitrogen sources, soil microorganisms release the power of NITROFORM throughout the growing season.
Soil bacteria initially convert the most-soluble fraction of the product, approximately one-third of the total nitrogen, in the first four to six weeks. Intermediate chain-length molecules break down more slowly. By six months after application, approximately 70% of the nitrogen has been released through microbial action in the soil. The remaining 30% lasts for six to 12 more months, depending on microbial activity.
