A quick primer on RSS...
|
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. RSS feeds are a way for websites to distribute new content (such as TurfNet.com job listings and news) as it becomes available.
Think of an RSS feed as a file that contains a blog or website's most recent entries. By subscribing to a site's feed via RSS, you will automatically be notified when that website contains new posts or entries. Instead of checking sites repeatedly for updates, RSS feeds bring your favorite websites to you.
In order to subscribe to an RSS feed or newsfeed you will need two things, an RSS reader (also known as a news aggregator, a software application that collects and displays news headlines and summaries from sources that you designate) and URL (web address) of the RSS feed that you wish to subscribe.
An RSS feed can be identified by this universal symbol (or some variation of it). When you see it on a website, clicking will usually direct you to that site's feed. Alternatively, right-click on the RSS icon and copy the link; then, paste the link into your reader. In some cases you can drag the RSS icon directly to your reader to subscribe to that feed.
Many news readers allow you to set the interval that the reader looks for a feed update; others simply update daily.
