Chilling Out - Tips for Winter Performance
Pat Gross, Chris Hartwiger, Adam Moeller, Derf Soller, USGA Green Section

These four USGA Green Section agronomists will provide tips on dealing with issues such as diseases, winter traffic and winter damage on bentgrass, Bermudagrass and Poa annua putting surfaces. The purpose of the presentation is to provide superintendents with the latest information available on these topics to help reinforce current maintenance practices.

Cold Hardiness of Warm-Season Grasses
Dr. Aaron Patton, University of Arkansas

Dr. Patton will review winter hardiness while discussing the physiology of warm-season turfgrasses. He also will discuss how various management practices can influence the cold tolerance of these grasses. The presentation also will include cultivar selection, winter preparation, site conditions and recommendations on how to reduce the risk of winter kill while also saving money for your golf course.

Andy Moore of Aquatrols will teach you how to conduct a simple irrigation audit and how to determine the precipitation rate and uniformity of control of your irrigation system. The presentation also will include updates on the latest soil moisture-monitoring technology available to superintendents. The overall goal is to provide attendees with a short list of easily implemented ideas to help improve irrigation efficiency and reduce water use and waste.
