Ohio State field day set for Aug. 12

The Ohio State University Turfgrass Research Field Day is scheduled for Aug. 12 at the school’s Turfgrass Research Center in Columbus.

The field day will cover many subjects related to golf course turf, athletic fields and residential lawns.

Golf-related topics include updates on research conducted on ant control, summer disease control, changes in turfgrass morphology caused by fungicides and shade, shade tolerance and PGRs, dollar spot research and Tenacity herbicide.

AST announces addition to board

Advanced Sensor Technology recently named Paul Pressler as vice chairman of the company’s board of directors.

He is the former president and chief executive officer of Gap Inc., and also spent 15 years with the Walt Disney Co. Currently he is director for Avon Products Inc., OpenTable Inc. and Overture Acquisitions Corp. He also is an adviser to the private equity firm of Clayton, Dubilier and Rice.

His duties with AST will include working with the UgMO team to help develop strategic partnerships and growth opportunities.

Jake names new VP

Jacobsen recently named Martin Levy as the company’s vice president of sales and marketing.

He will be responsible for all sales and marketing initiatives in the company’s American and Asia Pacific markets. He will report to company president Dan Wilkinson.

Levy has worked in several positions for Ingersoll-Rand Co. and the Doosan Corp.

He will replace Ralph Nicotera, vice president of sales, who announced he will retire early next year.

GCSAA accepting awards nominations

The GCSAA is accepting nominations for its 2010 Excellence in Government Relations awards.

The awards are presented annually to those whose work reflects “outstanding individual and chapter efforts in the areas of advocacy and compliance.” Nominees will be judged on how their efforts serve the golf course industry. The association’s government relations committee will select the winners, and the awards are not limited to the previous year’s work.

Winners also will receive complimentary registration to next year’s Golf Industry Show in San Diego.
