Illinois superintendent earns master greenkeeper tag

Naperville (Ill.) Country Club superintendent Timothy Anderson, CGCS, recently earned the title of Master Greenkeeper by the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association.

According to the association, only 49 greenkeepers worldwide, including 14 in the United States, have earned this distinction.

To be considered, greenkeepers must be at Class A superintendent and undergo an assessment evaluating course maintenance, maintenance shop conditions, operations and record keeping, as well as demonstrating continuing education and experience.

Naperville’s recent renovation was recognized by the Golf Course Builders Association, and the project will be the focus of a promotional DVD produced by the American Society of Golf Course Architects.

A graduate of Penn State’s turfgrass management program, Anderson has been superintendent at Naperville since 2005. He also is a past president of the Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents and has served on the board of directors for eight years.
