BASF Turf and Ornamentals is scheduled to launch two new products this fall. Honor fungicide and Tower herbicide both should be available Oct. 1 through local BASF sales representatives.
Honor combines the active ingredients boscalid (the a.i. in Emerald fungicide) and pyraclostrobin (think Insignia) in one formulation that is labeled for control of anthracnose, dollar spot and patch diseases and many other common turfgrass diseases. It will be available in 3-pound containers.
Tower is a pre-emergent herbicide features a new active ingredient for the turfgrass industry – dimethenamid-p. Released in 2008 for the landscape industry, Tower is labeled for broad-spectrum control of small-seeded broadleaf weeds, grasses and sedges, including goosegrass and yellow nutsedge.
Tower, which is an EC formulation, will be available in 1-gallon and half-gallon containers.
In other news, BASF has discontinued sales of its Drive 75 DF herbicide to the professional turf and ornamental markets, and will dedicate its resources to promoting Drive XLR8, the company said.
Drive XLR8 is a liquid formulation of Drive 75 DF that was launched in May 2008. As a liquid formulation, XLR8 is rainfast within 30 minutes and has exhibited improved efficacy compared with its older cousin, the company said.
With the active ingredient quinclorac, Drive XLR8 is a postemergent herbicide registered for control of many common weeds, including crabgrass, dandelions and clover in cool- and warm-season grasses on golf courses, sod farms, sports fields and residential lawns. It has a use rate of 1.5 ounces per 1,000 square feet and can be tank mixed with other herbicides for control of grassy and other broadleaf weeds.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently granted label registration to Arysta LifeScience’s Disarm M fungicide.
A premix formulation of fluoxastrobin and myclobutanil, Disarm M is provides two modes of systemic and preventive activity to protect turf at the root and leaf. Disarm M is labeled for control of anthracnose, brown patch, dollar spot and summer patch in cool-season turf on greens and fairways.
Arysta will officially launch Disarm M at GIE+EXPO, which is scheduled for Oct. 29-31 in Louisville, Ky.
The board of directors of Briggs and Stratton Corp. on Aug. 12 elected Todd Teske as director.
His appointment became effective immediately.
Teske also was named as the company’s president and chief executive officer. Currently president and chief operating officer, Teske will take over as CEO on Jan. 1.
The Toro Co. announced the creation of a joint venture with TCF Inventory Finance Inc. that is designed to provide Toro dealers and distributors with floor plan and open account financing under the name Red Iron Acceptance LLC.
TCF Inventory Finance is a subsidiary of TCF Financial Corp.
As part of the agreement, TCF Commercial Finance Canada Inc., will provide floor plan and open account financing to Toro dealers in Canada.
Later this year, Red Iron, which will be headed by Tom Evans, will replace the commercial financing currently offered through Toro Credit Co. and a third-party financing company.
