    A few housekeeping chores

As 2009 draws to a close – “thankfully” some might say – thoughts naturally begin to shift toward next year. But before we move forward into 2010, there is much unfinished business for this year.

First, we have a bit of a holiday bonus for our many non-member visitors. Through the end of the year, we are making our archived TurfNet University Webinars available to everyone, including non-members, free of charge. That is a $25 value per Webinar for non-members. The pass codes necessary for registration are posted on the archive registration page. To access the codes and to register click here . Remember, CEU points for these presentations expire at the end of the year. Also, as always, we will submit CEU information (for archived Webinars only) to the GCSAA for you.

We also have a few live Webinars left this year, including Frank Rossi, Ph.D., of Cornell University who will present the latest findings from his mower research study on Nov. 19. On Dec. 2 four USGA Green Section agronomists will provide tips on winter management of Poa annua, bentgrass and Bermudagrass greens in the Northeast, Southeast, Northwest and Southwest. Aaron Patton, Ph.D., of the University of Arkansas will talk Dec. 10 on the cold-hardiness of warm-season grasses, and Andy Moore of Aquatrols will close out the schedule Dec. 15 with a talk entitled Control Your Water, Control Your Results.

To register for any of our remaining live Webinars, click here .

As always, registration for live Webinars is free for TurfNet members and $25 for non-members.

Next year will bring another full schedule of Web-based education presented by some of the turf industry’s leading researchers and instructors from all corners of the country ensuring you of a well-rounded online turf education.

Regular visitors to TurfNet no doubt will be familiar with many of those who are scheduled to present in the first half of the year, such as Bruce Branham, Ph.D., of the University of Illinois, Billy Crow, Ph.D., of the University of Florida, John Sorochan, Ph.D., of the University of Tennessee, Bruce Clarke, Ph.D,, of Rutgers University, Wendy Gelernter, Ph.D., and Larry Stowell, Ph.D., of PACE Turf, Frank Wong, Ph.D., of the University of California, Riverside and Joe Vargas, Ph.D., of Michigan State University.

We also will continue to accept nominations for our 2009 Superintendent of the Year award through the end of the month. So if you know of someone who deserves to be recognized, please consider taking a minute to submit a nomination by clicking here .

Finalists will be named in January on TurfNet and the winner will be announced during the Golf Industry Show in San Diego. The lucky winner will receive a nifty plaque and an all-expense-paid trip to Ireland courtesy of the award’s presenting sponsor, Syngenta .

As soon as we close the book on superintendent of the year, it will be time to begin accepting nominations for Technician of the Year award. The winner will be announced in the spring and will receive the Golden Wrench Award along with other great stuff. More to come on that next month, so start thinking about nominating your equipment manager for this award.
