The Quad-State Turfgrass Association GCSA chapter named Seth English as the recipient of this year’s Tom Poore Scholarship.
English is a sophomore majoring in horticulture at Murray State University in Murray, Ky. As the winner, he receives $1,000 per academic year he is enrolled at the university.
The award is named in honor of the long-time golf course superintendent of the Kentucky State Parks golf system and is given annually to a student enrolled in a turf-related program in Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri or Tennessee.
Partners continue to line up for the inaugural International Golf Course Equipment Managers Association Virtual Trade Show, scheduled for early next year.
Jacobsen recently was named as the third major partner for the show, joining The Toro Co. and John Deere Golf. The show is scheduled for March 18-20.
The event will comprise a three-dimensional trade show floor and booths. Each booth will link to expanded, downloadable information about participating exhibitors. Likewise, each exhibitor will have a live representative available for chat and question-and-answer sessions 24 hours per day throughout the duration of the show.
Five superintendents will attend next year’s Golf Industry Show courtesy of Bayer Environmental Science, the GCSAA and The Environmental Institute for Golf.
Arin Hawkins of Raymond Memorial Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio; Stephen Hendley of Lake Carlsbad (N.M.) Golf Course; Christopher Young of Port Jervis (N.Y.) Country Club; Michael Painter of Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock, Texas; and Donald Firestone of Capitol City Club in Olympia, Wash., will receive -paid trips to the show in San Diego after their names were selected in a random drawing.
Each will receive airfare, hotel accommodations for five nights, conference registration, two education seminars and a $200 stipend.
In response to the downward spiral in the economy, Dow AgroSciences has cut the price on all formulations of its Dimension brand herbicide and Eagle 20EW fungicide.
Both products also qualify for Dow’s Power of MORE rebate program, which allows customers to earn cash rewards throughout Aug. 31, 2010.
