    Oakland super to receive chapter honor


    Gary Ingram, CGCS of Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland, Calif., will receive the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California Superintendent of the Year Award at the chapter’s annual meeting and awards ceremony next month.

    The meeting is scheduled for Jan. 11 at Spring Valley Golf Course in Milpitas. Other awards to be presented include the chapter’s Turfgrass Excellence Award to (public sector) Brian Nettz, CGCS at the Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco, and (private sector) Michael Simpson, CGCS at Los Altos Golf and Country Club.

    Ingram is being recognized for his work with the Oakland Turfgrass Education Initiative, a program that introduces inner-city youth to career paths in sports turf and golf course maintenance.

    Other awards to be presented include the George Santa Distinguished Service Award to Robert Costa, CGCS at Laguna Seca Golf Course in Monterey and Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel and founder of Pacific Water Management. Don Naumann of Sierra Pacific Turf Supply of Campbell-Rocklin, Calif., and Sparks, Nevada, and superintendent at Blackberry Farms Golf Club in Cupertino will receive the Bert Graves Affiliate Merit Award.

    GCSAA chief executive officer Mark Woodward, CGCS, will be the keynote speaker at the event.
