Curtis Bruton and Pat Sherer recently received the Southern California GCSA Hi-Lo Desert chapter’s Distinguished Service Award.
The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor bestowed by the 260-member Hi-Lo chapter. It is presented annually to individuals for “commitment to their profession, and exemplary performance of activities and services within the Hi-Lo association.”
Former golf course superintendents, Bruton and Sherer both worked for High-Tech Irrigation of Indio, Calif., when they received the awards. Each has since moved on to another position elsewhere.
An association member for 15 years, Bruton served on the board as the affiliate liaison, worked on the tournaments, scholarship and research committees. A graduate Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in agriculture, he worked with High-Tech from 1995 to 2009 before moving on to a position with Harco Fittings in Texas.
Sherer has been a Hi-Lo member for 13 years, including serving as chairman of the scholarship and research committee. Another Cal Poly Pomona graduate (horticulture), he recently accepted a position with Simplot Partners in Idaho.
Previous winners include: Bob Maycock, Bud Lombard, Jack Roesinger, Ross O’Fee, John Dixon, Carl King, Carl Garczynski, Rick Sall and Danielle Marman.
