By Nassau Country Club, - updated January 25 - Glen Cove, New York
Nassau Country Club is a private club located on the North Shore of Long Island, New York approximately 30 miles east of Manhattan. NCC was established in 1896 as Queens County Country Club which then became Nassau Country Club in 1889 once the current location was purchased by it's members, many being titans of America. Nassau is loaded with golf history. It was the start of the Nassau Bet that is played around the world. It was one the first clubs to initiate the Goat Coin, and the great Bobby Jones received the most famous club in the game, the Calamity Jane, as he walked off the 18th green. He went on to win his many National Championships. The club held the Women's US Women's Amateur in 1914 and then again, 100 years later in 2014. We have held numerous MET and MGA tournaments over the years, with the MET PGA Championship and the IKE being the most recent. Annually we host one of the country's oldest amateur events, The Nassau Invitational. In September of this year, we will be hosting the first two days of the Junior Ryder Cup. You will get plenty of exposure for future Superintendent employment opportunities. Nassau has been designed by Devereux Emmet, Seth Raynor, Herbert Strong, and most recently The Fazio Group. The Fazio Group moved bunkers to modern day distances, changed some fairway lines, and created expansive bentgrass runoffs surrounding our 13 year old bentgrass greens. There is always opportunity for construction experience. We look to continue to enhance the golfing experience at Nassau by building new tees, adding more bunkers, and a new irrigation system in the coming years.
