Thorny Lea Golf Club is a Wayne Stiles/John Van Kleek design established in 1900 but the current design is from 1925. A parkland style golf course situated in the city of Brockton, Thorny Lea is a hidden gem. Touted as having one of the best golfing memberships in the state; the club has many past state tournament winners along with a past women's mid-amateur champion and a men's mid-amateur champion. The successful candidate can expect to work closely to the superintendent and other assistant(s) to achieve the goals set for that day. In the event the superintendent is away from the property, the assistant will help with managing the golf course. This is not only a supervisory role since we are a smaller operation. The assistant will be expected to be able to manage the crew while performing other duties such as course set up, water management (hand watering) or product application. Extended hours can be expected during the growing season (April - October), and a more flexible, relaxed work schedule during the winter months. A master plan was completed for the course in 2015 with Ian Andrew. We have been implementing portions of the plan since 2016. In fall of 2022 we completed a full bunker renovation with Better Billy Bunker liner. A new Toro 2 wire irrigation system was installed and finished in 2020. The club is committed to doing master plan work every year. We are constructing 9 new bunkers this fall and have over a million dollars of work out to bid to be completed in the coming years.

Atlanta Athletic Club is a private 36 hole facility, located 25 miles North of Atlanta. Our charter as a private club dates back to 1898 when a group of young businessmen were looking for a place to enjoy indoor and outdoor athletics with their associates and friends. The original downtown club was located on Edgewood Avenue and through the ages twice outgrew its space and relocated. The Club added a golf course and country club at East Lake in 1915 and moved to the present Johns Creek location in the late 1960s. The club has been home to many great athletes, most notably Bobby Jones. The club has played host to multiple major events and most recently hosted the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. In continuation of this history, the Atlanta Athletic Club has also partnered with the USGA in order to host multiple tournaments in the future as well. Future tournament schedule includes: 2025 U.S. Girl's Junior, 2030 U.S. Amateur, and 2035 Women's Amateur Championship. In the beginning of January 2022, the Riverside course went through a complete rebuild and redesign, under the direction of architect Tripp Davis. The renovation included an all HDPE irrigation system, sand capping fairways and tees, drainage installation, and reshaping for the new design. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Lead Assistant. He or she will be responsible for correct calibration; mixing and application of all fertilizers and pesticides applied to greens, tees, fairways, rough and any other areas as directed by the Superintendent and/or Lead Assistant Superintendent. He or she will assist in the direction of the staff and employees, and also complete related work as required. Job Expectations Include: · Assist in implementing the agronomic plan developed by the Golf Course Superintendent. · Must be a self starter that can work independently and efficiently with limited supervision. · Highly motivated, team oriented individual · Ability to work well with others, including but not limited to Spanish speaking employees · Adheres to policies and procedures outlined in the AAC Employee Handbook and AAC Safety and Health Manual · Able to work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays. Job Tasks Include: · Calibration and operation of sprayer and spreader equipment · Fertilizer and pesticide understanding including applications and recording · Assists in daily course operations (mowing, spraying, fertilizing, course set-up, hand watering, etc…) · Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment. · Ability to identify turf grass disease, weeds, and nutrient deficiencies. · Must be proficient with crew training and supervision. · Operates the irrigation control system in accordance to the Superintendent’s guidelines in addition to repairing the Irrigation system, pipes, and irrigation heads as needed. · Maintains compliance with all local, State and Federal laws pertaining to chemical storage, handling, applications and disposal. · Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism with members and guests. · Supervises a small labor force for special projects and performs other managerial duties as directed by the Superintendent and/or Lead Assistant Superintendent.
