Seasonal Intern
The Quechee Club is a private 36 hole championship golf and four season private recreational community located in south central Vermont with a current membership level of 1,400 members. The club is situated on 5,000 acres and also offers a small downhill ski area, X/C skiing, 11 tennis courts, 2 platform courts, indoor & outdoor pools, fitness center, 50 acre recreational lake, polo field, athletic fields, hiking & biking trails, etc. The surrounding "Upper Valley" area has lots of other outdoor recreational activities along with the cultural offerings of Woodstock, Vermont and Dartmouth College, which is located just across the Connecticut River in Hanover, New Hampshire.
The Club has recently gone through a major renovation in 2023 after summer flooding damaged the property. The property features California greens with A1/A4 Bentgrass surfaces along with bentgrass tees & fairways. In addition a new HDPE irrigation system installation was completed in 2022 with the installation of a new Rainbird I/C decoder system with double & triple row sprinklers. During 2023, the club embarked on phase one of a Campus Master plan renovation program to update other facilities and amenities throughout the club.
We are looking for driven and motivated individuals who have the short term goal of gaining the skills and experience necessary to become an assistant golf course superintendent and eventually a golf course superintendent. The qualities we value are a good work ethic, a keen eye with attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and willing to work overtime when necessary to provide our membership with the best quality product possible.
Our internships will be specifically tailored to the individuals' needs based on past experience and what they desire to focus on while interning. Interns will be encouraged to obtain a Vermont State Pesticide applicators license while here and will become an integral part of our plant protectant applications program. In addition, interns will have some crew scheduling and leadership opportunities along with daily course set up & scouting, hand watering, irrigation repairs, project work, equipment operation, etc. Interns leave with a well rounded exposure to all facets of turfgrass management and successful interns are strongly considered for future employment opportunities that may arise along with being offered help in achieving their future career objectives. We have many former interns who have gone on to very successful careers in the Golf course maintenance industry.
Educational Requirements
Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate from a 2 or 4 year Turf, Landscape, Horticultural program, or an agronomy related field.
Experience Requirements
Some previous golf course related experience is desired but not mandatory. We are willing to train and will gear the internship to the individual's experience and needs. Our internships are tailored to the individual's experience level and we strive to fully immerse interns in all aspects of turfgrass management. Successful interns are encouraged to return for additional intern experience or to fill any open positions that may become available.
Special Requirements
Interns are trained on our spray equipment and become a key component to our plant protectant applications. Interns are encouraged to take and pass the Vermont pesticide applicators license exam while here.
