The club just completed a complete rebranding with new colors, flags, pins, tee markers and logo. The new logo was designed by Lee Wybranski, the top logo designer in the golf and country club industry

Whitford's golf course is presently undergoing extensive renovations aimed at enhancing the overall experience for both members and guests. Work is being done by Mottin Golf with designs by golf course architect Jim Nagle. 

Along with this work, many in-house projects have been completed and are slated for later in 2024.

The  Assistant-in-Training works directly with the Assistant Superintendents and Golf Course Superintendent and assists with the day-to-day maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Responsibilities:

  • Landscape Maintenance:

    • Mowing, edging, and fertilizing the golf course turf.

    • Pruning trees, shrubs, and other landscaping elements.

    • Planting and maintaining flowers, bushes, and other ornamental plants.

  • Irrigation System Management:

    • Monitor and operate the golf course's irrigation system.

    • Perform routine checks and repairs to ensure optimal functioning.

    • Adjust irrigation schedules based on weather conditions.

  • Bunker Maintenance:

    • Rake and maintain sand bunkers on the golf course.

    • Ensure bunkers are consistently presented in excellent playing condition.

  • Equipment Operation:

    • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and utility vehicles.

    • Report any equipment malfunctions and perform routine maintenance.

  • Pest and Weed Control:

    • Implement pest and weed control measures as needed.

    • Keep the golf course free from invasive plants and pests.

  • Course Setup:

    • Assist with the setup of the golf course for daily play and special events.

    • Collaborate with other staff to ensure all areas are prepared to the highest standards.

  • Management Experience: 

    • Lead small crews and projects.

    • Learn management and grounds operations.

    • Gain a better understanding of “back end” operations.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related fields is preferred.

  • Knowledge of turf management and irrigation systems is a plus.

  • Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Passion for the world of turf and eager to move up in the industry. 

 

High School students interested in a higher education in turf maintenance are highly encouraged to apply! Whitford’s management team has ties with Penn State and Delaware Valley University.
