Assistant Superintendent

Whitford's golf course underwent extensive renovations aimed at enhancing the overall experience for both members and guests last winter. Work was completed by Mottin Golf with designs by golf course architect Jim Nagle. This winter, the course will undergo a full scale bunker renovation, along with extensive approach and shortgrass expansions. The club has also started to implement a tree management program to enhance playability and turf quality.
Along with this work, many in-house projects have been completed and are slated for later in 2024/ 2025.
The course has a 3 year old full HDPE Rainbird IC irrigation system.
The Assistant Superintendent works directly with the Lead Assistant Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendent to assist with the day-to-day maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervising the maintenance of golf course staff and related equipment.
- Preparing and prioritizing daily task lists, such as mowing and general maintenance.
- Training all personnel in safe and efficient equipment operation.
- Monitoring golf course moisture conditions and scheduling irrigation cycles using Rainbird
- Assist in safely mixing and applying plant protectants on the golf course.
- Irrigation Troubleshooting and repair.
This hands-on management position requires a self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Candidates should be willing to learn all aspects of the operation with the desire to become a Head Superintendent. The candidate will be required to take full ownership of their assigned responsibilities and should also be able to collaborate and provide input to the superintendent.
Educational Requirements
A degree or certificate in turf management or a related field is preferred, but not required. We seek to utilize and enhance an individual's full potential and allow them to find fulfillment in their future endeavors. We recognize the value of solid work experience and passion for the industry.
Experience Requirements
1 or more years of assistant experience is preferred.
Special Requirements
Must be able to obtain PA pesticide license within 90 days of employment
