Golf Course Superintendent

Position Summary Description

Responsible for the efficient management of golf course maintenance operations for 36 holes. The responsibilities include helping the Director of Agronomy successfully execute: turfgrass maintenance and agronomic programs, personnel management, budgeting and forecasting, scheduling and maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related record keeping, and compliance of regulatory issues. The golf course superintendent works to create an environment where team members are involved, enthusiastic, communicate openly, and with respect for other team members, club members, owners, vendors and the property.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all assisting in all functions of golf course maintenance including efficient daily maintenance, agronomic planning, cost control, and personnel management.

• Works closely with and coordinates with the Director of Agronomy on any issues related to golf course maintenance.

• Administers and enforces all company standards, regulations, and policies.

• Works closely with the Director of Agronomy to operate the golf courses in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.

• Must be able to work independently and be a solutions oriented leader.

• Oversees the care and maintenance of the golf course property.

• Helps execute detailed annual agronomic plan for 36 holes of golf.

• Manages water usage, tracking, and reporting.

• Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance team members. Helps conduct team member performance evaluations and exercises progressive discipline.

• Provides technical, operational and safety training for team members to ensure that the team is working within OSHA, company safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.

• Helps oversee team members in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.

• Supervises and participates in the application and recording keeping of all chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

• Helps supervise and control all maintenance expenses associated with golf course operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.

• Maintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.

• Performs maintenance practices around daily play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to golf.

Educational Requirements

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience preferred
• 2-year degree or certificate in turf management or related field.
• For profit golf experience.
• Advance computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations, including use of Microsoft office suite.
• Valid driver's license.
• Texas pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Successful experience managing and maintaining ultra dwarf bermudagrass greens and warm season fairways, tees, and roughs in warm season climates
• Experience in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.
• Interpersonal skill to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, team members, club members, guests & ownership.
• Knowledge of the safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.
• Knowledge of the game of golf.
• Ability to forecast personnel, equipment, and material requirements for efficient golf course maintenance.
• Experience with 5s facility management
