In the past few years Mistwood Golf Club has expanded into a small hospitality company.  Not only does the company manage a high-end, semi-private golf course, but also two restaurants (McWethy’s Tavern, McWethy’s Sports Bar, two banquet facilities (The Great Hall at Mistwood and the Grand Ballroom at Joliet Union Station) and a sports dome (Mistwood Golf Dome).  While each property is a different concept, they share one important characteristic: each is an exciting place where enthusiastic people come together to create a special experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ASSISTANT GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

 

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Mistwood Golf Club is a full-time, skilled labor position that will demand full-time hours throughout the year. This position will report directly to the Head Superintendent.  Because the maintenance staff is accountable for all golf course and facility set-up and maintenance, the Assistant Superintendent will have a variety of responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.  Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

·         Contributing to the establishment, promotion and protection of the Mistwood brand.

·         Managing, overseeing, training and scheduling seasonal employees.

·         Maintaining the irrigation system and making repairs as required.

·         Managing small projects throughout the season.

·         Overseeing daily course set-up and scheduling.

·         Administering pesticide and fertilizer applications on the golf course, as well as maintaining the necessary certifications and licenses in these areas.

·         Assisting all operations in necessary situations.

·         Acting as a role model for the staff and always portraying a positive attitude

 

Requirements:

 

Applicants should possess the following:

 

·         A 2 or 4-year degree in the field of turfgrass management,

·         A self-driven, highly motivated work ethic, and the ability to work well in a team oriented environment.

·         The ability to work extended hours including weekends and holidays as needed.

·         The ability to obtain an Illinois Pesticide applicators license.

·         A valid driver’s license.

·         Bi-lingual skills in Spanish are highly recommended.

·         Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach, push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds, make continuous repetitive motions, and work in noisy environments with hot and cold temperatures.

 

Compensation:

·         60,000-70,000DOE

·         Health Insurance

·         401K with company match after a year of employment

·         Dues paid to the Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents.

·         Dues paid to the GCSAA.

·         Dues paid to Turfnet

·         Annual pro shop allowance for clothing and merchandise.

About Mistwood Golf Club

Mistwood Golf Club is a high-end public golf facility located in Romeoville, Illinois.  The golf course was built in 1997 and updated through an extensive master plan in 2012.  Designed and renovated by Architect Ray Hearn, Mistwood offers a unique golfing experience that includes 20 sodwall bunkers, A-4 creeping bentgrass greens and rolling terrain.  The course has received a number of national awards including “Best New Course” by Golf Digest, "Best U.S. Renovations You Can Play" by Golf Magazine, one of the “Top Renovations in the World” by Golf Inc., and has been listed by the Golf Range Association of America as one of the " Top 50 Golf Ranges”
