Job Tasks/Duties

  • Inspects equipment for operating deficiencies.

  • Perform major and minor mechanical repairs on various diesel and gasoline-powered equipment under the guidance of the Superintendent.

  • Execute a preventative maintenance program to reduce mechanical failures and enhance the performance of all golf course equipment.

  • Inspect, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues for all maintenance equipment.

  • Perform blade sharpening, welding, and brazing as necessary to ensure equipment is in top condition.

  • Monitor inventory, compare prices on parts and materials before ordering, and maintain an organized and efficient workshop.

  • Lubricates and services all course maintenance equipment.

  • Repairs and adjusts equipment.

  • Maintains repair records on all equipment.

  • Establishes and maintains safety procedures for using equipment.

  • Maintains safety records.

  • Interviews and recommends applicants for maintenance staff positions.

  • Performs general overhaul and other preventive maintenance on all equipment.

  • Maintains blades of reel mowers.

  • Maintains inventory of common equipment maintenance and repair parts.

  • Performs emergency repair work out of shop.

  • Undertakes body and fender work, fabrication, welding, troubleshooting and repairs to hydraulic and

  • electrical systems.

  • Communicates and reports any needs or problems relating to course equipment.

  • Attends staff meetings.

  • Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Graduate of a vocational technical school or post-secondary training in small engine repair or mechanics.

  • Four to six years of experience as a mechanic.

  • Golf repair equipment experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

  • Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.

  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.

  • Frequent repetitive motions.

  • Continuous standing and walking.

  • May need to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat
