Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) seeks an instructor and program coordinator for the USGA Greenkeeper Apprenticeship Program (GAP). The USGA’s purpose is to UNIFY the golf community, SHOWCASE the golfers who inspire us, GOVERN the sport to ensure a solid foundation, and ADVANCE the good of the game for the next 100 years and beyond. The USGA Greenkeeper Apprenticeship Program is a professional development experience that integrates the theories behind golf course management with experiential learning opportunities at golf course facilities to transform the careers of golf course maintenance professionals.

The successful candidate will have the responsibility of delivering the GAP experience that includes but is not limited to classroom instruction and work-based learning at HGTC’s Turf Care and Demonstration Center. This individual will work collaborative with the Golf and Sports Turf Management faculty and report to the (Chair of Golf and Sports Turf Management).

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass science (or related field) and three (3) years related experience. Competency demonstrated with applied experience in formal or non-formal education.

 

Preferred: Master's degree in Turfgrass science (or related field), subject matter expert in the field for turfgrass science. Significant training and experience in formal and non-formal education with recognized credentials and/or certifications. Previous experience with mentorship and support in supervised agricultural settings. Work experience in a team environment. Experience with communicating scientific topics within the turfgrass industry. Previous experience with industry partners engagement and relationship development. Attention to detail; excellent written and spoken communication. Strong record of industry service. Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student learning styles and requested accommodations. Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques and equipment.

Job Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave.
