Equipment/Shop Manager

Job Summary

The organization is currently in search of competent individuals who meet the qualifications for the Equipment Mechanic position. The individual in this role will be accountable for conducting both preventative maintenance and repairs on the equipment inventory assigned to the department. This role involves conducting intermediate-level mechanical maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs on small to medium-sized gas or diesel engines, as well as other equipment within the department. Maintenance work will be carried out on a variety of equipment, including alligators, snow blowers, excavators, and stationary equipment located within the facilities. In addition, the job requires examining complex repair guides and equipment documentation, identifying mechanical or related equipment problems, assisting in choosing the appropriate repair method, and coordinating vendor warranty work when required.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducts routine maintenance and essential repairs on relevant, motorized machinery.
  • Provides training and assistance to departmental staff on properly using and maintaining equipment.
  • Performs equipment repair tests and test drives when needed, while also assisting with equipment transportation.
  • Undertakes any other related obligations as required or directed by the relevant supervisor.

Educational Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or its equivalent is required, with a preference for specialized training in equipment repair, diagnostics, or a related trade obtained through vocational school or apprenticeship.

Experience Requirements

Two (2) years of relevant experience in equipment maintenance is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Meet the requirements for pre-employment background checks, including criminal, credit, and DMV screenings. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record (driving records may be checked yearly for ongoing eligibility). Within six (6) months of employment, it is necessary to have a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements. A CDL holder is required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and adhere to Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees. First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within 30 days of being hired. Forklift training is also required within the specified timeframes for the department.
