Equipment/Shop Manager

Elcona Country Club is currently seeking an Equipment Manager to oversee its entire fleet of equipment.  Come and be an integral part of a relaxed team atmosphere at a top Indiana club with a supportive membership that invests annually into our fleet and golf course.  This is a great opportunity for the right individual to have ownership of the shop and make it his or her own.  This opportunity is available immediately.  
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
•    The inspection, adjustment, diagnosis, and repair of all mechanical failures in various golf course maintenance equipment and vehicles, 90% of which is John Deere.
•    Maintaining a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment, purchase all necessary parts and PM needs
•    Keeping a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.
•    Assists in the instruction and training of golf course staff regarding proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment
•    Spot check equipment for performance on the course, make emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use
•    Oversee the shop area and its maintenance and upkeep
•    Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of superintendent and assistant superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent
 

Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.  Possessing formal certifications or training is a major preference but not required.   GCSAA Certificate Completion is also a major plus. Your individual body of work and experience will take higher priority than any formal education.  

Experience Requirements

The right individual will have strong knowledge of gas and diesel engines, 2 cycle engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.  Welding and fabrication skills are a plus, as is knowledge of the working components of varied turf equipment and golf carts.  Some knowledge in the art of reel grinding and set up to ensure the highest quality of cut is highly recommended, but we will train the right individual if they do not possess that skill set.  Management and organizational skills including record keeping are a must with this position.

Our ideal candidate will be a detail-orientated individual that takes great pride in their work and the club’s equipment, maintains a tidy work environment, and understand the end goal of our department: a pristine golf course that meets and exceeds our membership’s expectations.  You should be strongly motivated, have a high attention to detail, and demonstrate thoroughness in your work and desire to learn.  Excellent verbal communication skills are required.  Strong computer skills are a plus, as is a general understanding of the game of golf and how our department affects the daily playability of the course.  The typical work schedule is 44 hours/week April-October and 40 hours/week November-March, though it may vary due to equipment needs and course schedule.
