Golf Course Superintendent

Qualifications

 

· GCSAA Class A Membership

· Minimum 5 years of golf course maintenance experience in a leadership role to include golf, turf fertilization, calibration, pest control and irrigation oversight

· Pesticide applicator certification

· Experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture

· A working knowledge of the construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers

· A degree or advanced knowledge of agronomy, horticulture, plant or soil science

· High degree of administrative and executive ability including effective oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency

· Certified and/or licensed for pesticide usage

· Valid Florida driver’s license

· Knowledge of irrigation including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells and automatic controls and drainage

· Ability to evaluate the course from a player’s perspective

· Knowledge of southern grasses

· REQUIRED: Experience with renovations and grow in (Tentative 2026)

 

Responsibilities

  • The superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation and management of a golf course

· Direct and manage the maintenance of the golf course and all maintainable areas including the clubhouse and surrounding areas according to the management contract.

· Maintain accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, and safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations

· Approve all expenditures and exercises cost control measures to keep, as nearly as possible, operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets

· Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, direct and supervise employees for the purpose of maintaining the golf courses

· Ensure that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations; maintain required records

· Communicates regularly with golf shop team to discuss activities, conditions of facilities, maintenance plans and scheduled events

· Requires knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations)

· Reports directly to the General Manager

· You serve as the liaison between the company and the city of Plantation representative concerning daily course operation

· Supervising the operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment assigned to the course

· Preparing and operating within annual budget estimates

· Preparing and following an annual agronomic plan that operates within the technical specifications of the contract and the annual budget

· Creating and distributing reports of maintenance activities as required

· Managing golf course employees including interview, hire, training, discipline and separation

· Fulfilling administrative duties timely

· Administer all aspects of safety program. Bimonthly safety meetings documenting safety meetings on each and every price of equipment and general golf course safety issues. Along with toolbox safety program with all employees. 

· Meeting or exceeding external and internal customer expectations

· Attend weekly staff meetings
