Assistant Superintendent

The Pine Canyon Club is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as an Assistant Superintendent. As a key member of the property’s golf course maintenance team, the Assistant Superintendents report to the Director of Agronomy and the Golf Course Superintendent. They assist with the day-to-day and year around oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex. Winter activities include snow removal (shoveling, snow blowing and plowing as needed), outdoor ice rink construction and daily set up as well as oversight of the snow play area and sledding hill.

Active and outdoorsy people will thrive here as Northern Arizona provides unlimited opportunities to enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer.  In season (April to November) is busy and you can expect 45 to 60 hours per week. You will receive every other weekend off and when working the weekend, one day off that week. Off season (December to April) we schedule 4 day work weeks with 3 consecutive days off, all dependent on snow removal responsibilities. Position Responsibilities:
• Assist management with supervising the foreman, irrigation technician and other employees in the maintenance department.
• Assist management with daily work procedures, prepares weekly work schedules, and expedites workflow for the foreman, irrigation staff and other employees in the maintenance department.
• Assist with issuing written and oral instructions to maintenance personnel; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
• Provide essential input to the Superintendent to assist in planning and managing the annual budget and the maintenance recordkeeping.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
• Works closely with Superintendent in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies for maintenance of the golf course daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly fertilization, irrigation schedules.
• Assist staff when needed with routine tasks (mowing, calibrating and operating pesticide sprayer, routine repairs)
• Monitors inventory of all maintenance equipment and the use of the equipment.
• Assists with proper application and documentation of all chemicals and fertilizers as outlined in agronomic plan and weekly schedule.
• Assists with inventory of all chemicals, fertilizers, shop supplies and course supplies and communicate future needs to Superintendent as appropriate
• Assists management with developing, performing, and documenting safety meetings for the maintenance department
• Assists with monitoring and recording fuel and irrigation usage logs and report appropriately
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. to waist height.
Some repetitive motion required including typing and data entry.
Frequent bending, turning, kneeling and stooping may be required.
Must be able to fluently speak and write the English language.

 

 

Educational Requirements

Minimum 2 year Certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field

 

Experience Requirements

  •  Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be highly organized, efficient and detail oriented
  •  Must possess basic computer skills – Word and Excel
  •  Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business 
  • 1-3 years Turfgrass management experience preferred
  • Posses or be able to obtain a State Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months of employment
