Seasonal Intern

Internship

Here at Northmoor Country Club we strive to produce as much growth and development as possible. We cater how and what we teach based on your individual skill set. Since everyone has different backgrounds and experiences, we start with where you left off in your past work experience. Whether you’re just starting off in the golf/turf industry, or you’ve completed several internships and have a broad skill set, our goal is to push you to the next step of your career. Northmoor provides both an agronomic challenge as well as an introduction to leadership within an agronomic operation. Everything we practice here is relevant, practical and will be applicable to the rest of your career. There is strong potential for advancement here, but with the right mindset we guarantee you will leave here propelled towards your goals.

We aren’t looking for another abled body but instead a motivated and ambitious individual that sees themselves as a future leader. Somebody that isn’t searching for a title but looking to increase accountability and acquire any opportunity to get the job done.

Northmoor recently hired Tyler Rae to completely renovate 9 of our 27 holes. Two multi-acre ponds were moved, 250 trees were removed, and a completely new routing was built by Duininck Golf and Leibold Irrigation to solve flooding issues commonly found in this part of the state. The new Nine is complete with variable-depth greens seeded to Pure Distinction, Piranha/Barracuda fairways, Better Billy Bunker/ProElite sand, Toro 2-wire irrigation system with Infinity heads, new pumphouse and new pumpstation. As of September, we are fully grown-in, have had a successful first year, and are starting in on detail work, continued drainage, and tree planting. Below is a list of tasks that will be at the core of your skill set as well as events to look forward to.

  • Hand Watering, emphasizing in greens moisture management
  • Introduction to golf course building methods including variable-depth green construction
  • Exposure to high level turfgrass maintenance and the relationship between playability and aesthetics
  • Cultural practices and insight into ISTRC testing
  • Drainage installation
  • Irrigation repair, troubleshooting, programming
  • Tank mixing and pesticide applications
  • Fertilizer applications and necessary calibration procedures
  • Budget workshops and Early Order strategies
  • Resume workshop
  • Tour nearby agronomic operations
  • Volunteer offsite tournament
  • Leading small crews and scheduling for a week
  • Post Internship bonus, based on performance
  • $20.00 hour + ample overtime

Experience Requirements

Preferred 1+ years experience on golf course or sports field team.

Special Requirements

Here you will not only learn how we do things at Northmoor but why we do things. I have seen some people in this industry scoff at the idea of having to rake bunkers or mow greens. The important thing to remember is that you will someday be responsible for teaching new staff members how to do these things, so it’s probably a good idea to be able to do these things in your sleep. The second important thing – it’s part of the job that needs to get done and no one is above anything. Questions and dialogue are encouraged at Northmoor and expect to work closely with Brian (Director of Agronomy), Jeff Cholewa (Senior Equipment Manager), Jack Porter (Senior Assistant Superintendent), Alex Euse (2nd Assistant Superintendent) and Will Enderson (2nd Assistant Superintendent). As a team we have experienced golf courses in all corners of the U.S. Our experiences and networks will be made available to you.  Not ending there you will be given access to spray records, budgets, irrigation scheduling, management strategies and problem solving, as well as the club schedule and how we plan and organize on a daily and weekly basis. We don’t work for the CIA, holding information back from you doesn’t help either of us, so the more you ask, the more you will learn.
