Assistant-in-Training

Seattle Golf Club is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Assistant-in-Training. Motivated self-starters who are interested in progressing through a career in turfgrass management are encouraged to apply. AITs will have the drive and curiosity required to learn and succeed in the private club industry and will realize the programs that go into maintaining an exceptional golf course. Through practical experience, AITs will be prepared for advancement in the turfgrass industry  

Established in 1900, Seattle Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf club in North Seattle with a renowned championship golf course, outstanding practice facilities and exceptional clubhouse service and amenities. Seattle Golf Club is regarded as one of the premier private clubs on the west coast, priding itself on elite playing conditions on the golf course and remarkable services to members and guests. The Club recently announced it will host the 2027 US Senior Amateur and has hosted many prestigious tournaments, including several USGA championships and the 1961 Walker Cup. The Club completed an extensive renovation of all greens complexes in 2021 and continues to make other course improvements in accordance with our master plan. Rigorous playability and aesthetic standards offer unique challenges and learning opportunities in a fast-paced but engaging environment. 

Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents, AITs will be exposed to all facets of our maintenance practices and cultural programs. Emphasis will be placed on the operation and maintenance of our Toro irrigation system and our IPM program. AITs will be prepared for and expected to obtain their Private Commercial Applicator License after 90 days of employment.  

Assistants-in-Training will gain experience in small project management/oversight and will be expected to be a leader and voice on our staff. AITs will also train with and work alongside each of our full-time staff members to gain practical hands-on experience in all areas of course maintenance. AITs can expect to learn and take part in disease scouting, moisture management and a variety of other tasks including course set-up, bunker maintenance, and mowing. The candidate can expect to gain experience in operating mowers and other heavy machinery (tractors, backhoes, aerifiers etc.) to improve an overall skill set needed for the next step in one's career. All aspects of turfgrass maintenance will be emphasized. Successful AITs will gain the experience to understand and implement sound agronomic strategies and cultural practices and develop solid management skills through hands-on leadership opportunities.  

Educational Requirements

A degree or certificate in turfgrass maintenance or a related field is preferred. Work experience will be considered in lieu of education. Continued education opportunities will be available, and AITs will be expected to participate. AITs will be expected to obtain their pesticide applicator license after 90 days of employment.  

Experience Requirements

Experience working on a golf course maintenance crew is preferred but not required. At least one year of general landscaping experience is required
