Golf Course Superintendent

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to maintain and manage the golf course grounds. It is his/her responsibility to supervise the maintenance of the golf course, supervise the maintenance and repair of construction and maintenance equipment, and to do related work as required.

This employee is responsible for the turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, scheduling/maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues.

Duties:

1. Oversees, directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas on the facility grounds.
2. Provides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting, and pleasant atmosphere.
3. Manages water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells, and other water source usage.
4. Supervises maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
5. Oversees subordinates to ensure proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
6. Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
7. Supervises daily maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals, and fertilizers. Building expenses will be reviewed and approved by the General Manager.
8. Assists in developing annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
9. Maintains records and completes required reporting.
10. Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
11. Coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.
12. Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmithing, and painting work to maintain the Reading Country Club building.
13. Ensure facility follows Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal guidelines and safety regulations.
14. Inspect the building storm water flow on a regular basis that includes the gutters, drains and downspouts on the property.
15. Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Golf Director on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
16. Administers and enforces all Club rules, regulations, and policies for staff.
17. Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within club safety, state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
