Seasonal Intern

Internship

Farm Neck Golf Club, a distinguished semi-private golf club located in Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, invites applications for our Seasonal Intern position. Established in 1979 and designed by renowned architect Geoffrey Cornish, Farm Neck is consistently recognized as one of the premier golfing experiences in the Northeast by prestigious publications such as Golf Digest and GolfWeek. Our unique approach fosters an inclusive atmosphere, welcoming everyone from local residents to visiting dignitaries, celebrities, and professional athletes.

At Farm Neck, we pride ourselves on a collaborative management style that empowers all team members. Daily meetings among the Superintendent, Assistants, Interns, and Equipment Technicians facilitate open dialogue and strategic planning, enhancing teamwork and operational efficiency.

We typically offer one to a maximum of two internship positions each year, which we believe enhances the overall experience for our interns. This approach fosters greater involvement in all aspects of our maintenance operations, provides increased one-on-one interaction with our management team, and effectively prepares interns for advancement in their careers upon completing the program.

As a Seasonal Intern, you will have the opportunity to perform and learn a variety of tasks, including:

  • Operating and maintaining all equipment

  • Troubleshooting irrigation systems

  • Designing and setting irrigation cycles

  • Managing soil moisture levels

  • Identifying and monitoring pests

  • Calibrating sprayers and spreaders

  • Developing and implementing spray programs

  • Executing cultural practices such as verticutting, topdressing, and aeration

  • Leading small-scale projects

  • Collaborating with the Head Equipment Technician on repairs and maintenance

  • Assigning tasks to staff and leading operations for a week

  • Providing high-quality championship conditions while accommodating over 250 rounds per day during peak season

In Fall 2023, Farm Neck initiated a comprehensive golf course renovation that will continue into Spring 2025. This ambitious project includes new tee boxes, fairway recontouring, enhanced bunkers featuring Better Billy Bunker Liner, native grass establishment, erosion control measures, tree clearing, irrigation installation, and greens reconstruction. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in managing and coordinating a large-scale renovation project on this beautiful island.
