Equipment/Shop Manager
Bishops Bay Country Club, located in Middleton, Wisconsin is actively seeking a highly skilled, full-time Equipment Manager to manage and oversee the maintenance facility and equipment fleet. We are in the process of wrapping up a major investment into the Agronomy shop area, including, a new additional equipment storage building, retaining walls, freshly seeded mounds around shop, 6 new storage binds for sand and materials, new wash pad. Once complete, we are looking to renovate and renew entire internal shop needs. This includes a major overhaul of all new shop equipment, with the purchase of grinders, lifts, welders, etc. The club is investing in an entire new fleet of Toro mowing equipment, carts, with a mixed brand of other equipment such as, skid steer, tractors, power tools, and hand tools. The chosen individual will be responsible for helping design the shop how they would like it to function, assist with intake of new equipment along with normal repair and maintenance, parts fabrication, managing the shop, parts and equipment inventory. This individual will also be responsible for leading, managing, overseeing, and training all Turf Equipment Techs on the team.
The Equipment Manager will work closely with and report directly to the Director of Agronomy.
The Equipment Manager/Head Mechanic is responsible for the following job functions:
- Preventative maintenance and repair of all golf course and grounds equipment
- Welding, engine rebuilding, ability to read hydraulic and wring schematics
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in diesel, electric, and gasoline equipment
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of all repairs and maintenance of equipment
- Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe work area
- purchasing of all parts materials necessary to properly maintain all maintenance equipment
- Maintain adequate parts inventory
- Ability to work proactively relative to equipment maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime and loss of staff productivity
- Maintain detailed records for equipment and parts equipment, costs, and preventative maintenance of all equipment
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing Tier 4 engines
- Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work relative to golf course operations
- Adjust mowers correctly to the Superintendent standards
- Ability to work within a given budget
- Physical work involves kneeling, bending, stretching, and lifting objects of 50lbs
- Assist Superintendent and/ or Assistant Superintendent in any way needed
Experience Requirements
- Maintenance and repair of all machines and vehicles associated with the Agronomy Department
- Maintain proper parts inventory levels
- Assist in training of employees on the proper use of all golf course equipment
- Work with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendents, and their teams to provide premium turf conditions.
- Ensure all mowing equipment remains sharp and in optimal working condition.
- Guarantee all equipment is efficient, operable, and available when needed.
- Direct daily work assignments to the Turf Equipment Technicians and/or Mechanics, and maintain a professional development culture.
- Prepare, recommend, and manage the equipment budget.
- Monitor costs and expenditures, identify variances, and recommend and implement corrective action as necessary.
- Build positive working relationships with equipment staff, grounds crews, leadership, vendors, and other
- Keep the maintenance shop clean, safe, and organized at all times.
- 4-7+ years' experience as a Mechanic or Equipment Manager
- In-depth knowledge of small engine mechanics and golf course turf equipment
- Aptitude for training technicians on equipment use and maintenance
