Position Summary:
The Director of Agronomy is responsible for golf course maintenance and resort landscaping, including leading and inspiring all associates in Agronomy, Golf Maintenance, and Resort Landscaping in a manner consistent with the Club’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to foster an engaged employee culture, implementing sound agronomic programs in accordance with established quality standards while working within the fiscal parameters of the property and managing a newly renovated 18-hole championship golf course, a new 9-hole short course, a ten-acre practice facility, and resort grounds, including turf and landscape management.
Essential Responsibilities:
Lead, develop, train, oversee, manage, coach and motivate the golf course and grounds maintenance team, ensuring training plans are followed, certifications are maintained, hiring procedures are met, discipline procedures are followed and working closely with Human Resources and the executive committee in staff development, direction, and succession planning.
- Maintain golf courses in optimum aesthetic and playing conditions.
- Maintain resort grounds and landscaping in optimum and aesthetic conditions.
- Manage and oversee the purchase, storage, inventory, and application of materials and equipment for golf courses, resort grounds, and landscaping.
- Manage water usage, tracking, and reporting.
- Prepare, recommend, implement, and manage capital and operating budgets.
- Prepare, recommend, and implement an annual agronomic plan for golf courses and resort grounds.
- Identify, recommend, plan, and manage renovations and maintenance schedules.
- Maintain strong working relationships with all leaders, colleagues, vendors, ownership, and other stakeholders or external third-party service providers. Follow, promote, and ensure the golf course and grounds maintenance teams practice and adhere to safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Ensure all incidents are quickly reported to Human Resources and Security.
- Ensure facilities, work areas, and golf course and grounds equipment are well maintained and both facilities are clean, organized, and in good condition.
- Ensure that chemicals or other agents are handled in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Embrace and promote the resort’s culture using guiding principles, values, and mission statement.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in agronomy and turf grass management and maintenance practices, construction, and renovations.
- Knowledge and experience managing facility grounds and landscaping.
- Experience leading, developing, training, overseeing, managing, coaching, and motivating a team.
- Financial knowledge in developing, creating, and managing budgets.
- Have a BS, associate degree, or certification in turf grass management or related experience.
- Experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Understand pest control products and their applications.
- Understand turf chemical and fertilizer products and their applications.
- Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Understand the game of golf and the impact playability.
- Ability to acquire certification or license for pesticide applications.
- Valid Passport and ability to obtain a government-sponsored work permit.
- Experience managing and maintaining warm season grasses with previous international experience in a similar region or climate preferred.
- Active and certified GCSAA member preferred.
- Understand and provide quality and luxury and meet guest expectations.
- Speak, read, and write English with fluency and in a highly professional manner.
