Assistant Superintendent

Fresh Meadow Country Club, located in Great Neck, New York is seeking a Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. This position will be exposed to all aspects of managing our golf course and the encompassing property. 

The Club is seeking a responsible candidate that has ambition to grow professionally while working with a seasoned superintendent. Golf Course Superintendent, Joe Gardner, has had a track record for developing and mentoring assistant superintendents towards their own roles.

Club Highlights:

• Staff: 22 full time employees, 4-6 part time employees  
• Maintenance Budget: $2.8M operating budget, Capital Budget: $150,000-$300,000 
• Annual Rounds: 15,000-17,000 annually 
• Typical work schedule: April-October 50-70 hours/week, November-March 35-40 hours/week 
• Grass types: Bent and Poa grasses 
• Equipment: Toro-purchased
• Irrigation system: Toro Lynx Fusion
• Future projects: 
  • 2024: Fall bunker renovation, 2 tee complexes, and 1 green reconstruction
  • 2025-2027: Continue tee renovation 
  • 2027-2028: New irrigation install
  • 2026-2027: Pond shoreline stabilization

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:

• Learning and understanding the core daily operations including daily maintenance, pesticide and fertilizer mixing and application, irrigation service and repairs,
• Engage with all club staff, department heads, general manager, golf professionals and staff, club executives, members, and their guests.
• Becomes familiar with all safety and standard operating procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of 2 or 4-year turfgrass program 
• 1-3 years of experience
• An understanding of staff and project management is necessary
• A core of basic golf course maintenance knowledge is required such as course set-up, cultural practices, watering practices
• Able to obtain New York Pesticide License
