As an Assistant Superintendent at Wicker Point Golf Club, you will work alongside other assistants, the Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy to ensure the highest quality course conditions. We are looking for an Assistant Superintendent who is aiming to advance their career in turfgrass by demonstrating a positive attitude, a good work ethic, and a willingness to work in a team environment. The Assistant Superintendent will be involved in every facet of the maintenance operation. The Wicker Point management team, as a whole, strives to efficiently schedule and lead our staff each week, creatively implement the IPM and fertility programs, audit the irrigation system, which includes setting up daily watering through Toro Lynx, purchasing and working with all vendors, among many other duties. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and manage a staff of 25+ crew members
  • Oversee daily course setup and monitor playing conditions
  • Calibrate and apply all fertilizers and pesticides using GPS sprayers and other equipment
  • Use technology such as Tasktracker, Playbooks and MyJohnDeere to increase efficiency and track course maintenance practices
  • Ensure proper water management practices
  • Troubleshoot and maintain the 2-Wire Toro irrigation system
  • Plan and follow through with ongoing course projects
  • Assist in budget tracking, scheduling, and course project planning
  • Communicate daily with the golf operations department
  • Provide innovative ideas to continuously improve the course

Educational Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of turfgrass experience and previous turfgrass internships
  • Experience as Assistant Superintendent preferred
  • Ability to obtain an Alabama pesticide license within 60 days of employment
  • Knowledge of cultural practices and the use of golf course equipment
