Assistant Superintendent

Full-time

Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course greens, tees, fairways and all other features of the golf course and grounds. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Golf Course Superintendent's capacity during his absence. 

Bellewood Country Club is a private 18-hole club built in 1998 with pool facility in Pottstown, PA. The course features bentgrass greens, tees and fairways along with about 36 acres of fine fescue.

 The Superintendent, being a long-term Assistant himself, understands the challenges and goals of many Assistant Superintendents and will work closely with the new Assistant to help achieve his/her career goals. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the green department staff and the use of the equipment.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
  • Assists with the hiring, training, direction, supervision, and evaluation of seasonal maintenance staff.
  • Keep accurate and complete records.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Educational Requirements

Graduate of two- or four-year turf grass program or related field. 

Experience Requirements

3-5 years golf course management experience.

Special Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, rough and fine fescue areas.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • Possession of a valid PA driver's license.
  • Must have or obtain PA pesticide applicator license.
  • Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willing to work 6 days per week on average in season. Superintendent and Assistant will establish a schedule that works for both parties.
  • Must assist with snow removal operations.
