Seasonal Intern
Bethpage State Park has five – 18 Hole courses that host hundreds of thousands of golfers each year. The Black Course has hosted two US Opens, two FedEx Cup Barclays Tournaments, the 2019 PGA Championship and in 2025 will host the biggest event in golf, the Ryder Cup. In 2025 we will be laser focused to prepare the Black Course to be in peak condition in September for the Ryder Cup. You will be part of the agronomic preparations and also see the build out begin in May and all the details and moving parts associated with hosting a major tournament. In addition to the core maintenance practices needed to maintain and prepare our courses interns are also trained to spray fairways, tees and greens, assist with irrigation repair. New housing onsite offers great convenience, very close to Farmingdale Village and other amenities.
Educational Requirements
Students enrolled in turf programs at any stage are encouraged to apply. Ideally students will be available through the end of September for the Ryder Cup (September 23-28) Interns can stay for the entire Fall semester if their program allows. Post Ryder Cup the experience will be similar to a grow in as we begin to restore turf on the Black and our other course as the build out comes down. Aerating, sodding, seeding, irrigation and fairway and tee construction are all projects that were done after our 2019 PGA Championship and the same is expected post Ryder Cup.
Experience Requirements
We encourage all experience levels to apply. We can tailor an intern experience to their experience level, whether learning how to use all types of mowing equipment, to course set up, to more advanced practices like spraying and hand watering, to training and leading other less experienced staff are all part of the experience at Bethpage.
Job Benefits
The opportunity to be part of the team that presents Bethpage Black to the world next September for an event held only every 4 years in the United States is an amazing opportunity. Being here during the Ryder Cup will also allow for interns to network with peers, assistants, superintendents, plus sales reps and manufacturers which is a fantastic opportunity to create friends in the industry.
