Spray/Applications Technician
Palos Verdes Golf Club is a private club looking to add a qualified Spray Technician to our team!
Located in the middle of an 800-acre parkland preserve overlooking Santa Monica Bay with ocean views visible from several holes. Established in 1924, the golf course has long been referred to as "a hidden gem" and the clubhouse is a designated historical building by the Palos Verdes Historical Society. The Club is a pioneer for women's golf having hosted an NCAA collegiate event for the last 28 years and an LPGA Tour event for the last three years.
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and First Superintendent, this position plays a vital role in maintaining the health and aesthetics of the Club. The perfect candidate must have a strong understanding in chemicals, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the Superintendent. This position will also perform Greenskeeper duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Remain attentive, friendly, helpful, courteous, and respectful to Members, guests, and fellow employees at all times
- Maintain knowledge of all aspects of daily Club operation, including operating hours and scheduled golf events and tournaments
- Accurately applies fertilizer and chemicals safely and responsibly, adhering to all safety regulations
- Responsible for monitoring and tracking chemical inventory to maintain sufficient stock at all times
- Responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Conducts routine safety inspections including all spray equipment to ensure proper functionality
- Cleans, tests, calibrates and prepares all spray application equipment
- Assists golf course staff in performing assigned duties to ensure deadlines are being met
- Actively participates in daily maintenance tasks such as mowing, fertilizing and watering
- Consistently promotes a safe working environment; adhering to safety policies
- Performs other duties as directed by Superintendent and First Assistant
Educational Requirements
- College graduate with a degree in Agronomy preferred
- Current state QAL (qualified applicator license) preferred
- Completion of state and federal training requirements, including those mandated by the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard
Experience Requirements
- Knowledge of chemical application and calibration
- Must have golf course maintenance experience
- Basic knowledge about the game of golf and its rules and terminology
Special Requirements
- Excellent verbal communication, organizational, and follow-through skills
- Intermediate math skills
- Possession of valid driver's license
- Must have strong desire to learn and be a team player
