Assistant Superintendent
Overview: Partner with the Superintendent to direct and coordinate golf course maintenance activities such as maintaining quality course condition quality; selecting, developing, and retaining employees; and exceeding guest expectations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent to oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, ensuring cost control and efficient utilization of resources.
- Provides advice and coordination with the Golf Course Superintendent on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
- Direct and actively participate in the construction and maintenance of the grounds, ensuring they are well-maintained and visually appealing.
- Administer and enforce rules, regulations, and policies for staff members, including members and guests, to ensure a harmonious and professional environment.
- Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to maintain fiscal responsibility and professionalism in all maintenance operations.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training of staff members, while maintaining accurate training and performance records.
- Ensure the proper functioning of irrigation systems, overseeing repairs and irrigation duties to maintain course standards.
- Oversee and perform general maintenance tasks such as mowing, raking, blowing, mulching, sod work, aerification, and course set-up.
- Assist in special projects and undertake any additional duties as assigned by management.
Educational Requirements
- A degree or certification in turfgrass management or a related field is preferred but not required.
Experience Requirements
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course maintenance or a related field.
- Solid knowledge of turfgrass management principles, including irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.
- Experience operating and maintaining golf course maintenance equipment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and train staff effectively.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
