About the Club:
Diablo Country Club sits on a remarkable stretch of land at the base of Mount Diablo. in the rolling hills of the East Bay region of San Francisco, CA. The Club’s golf course was originally designed by Jack Neville in 1915, expanded to 18 holes by William Watson a few years later before they went on to design Pebble Beach and The Olympic Club. The course was fully renovated and restored by Todd Eckenrode in 2020, The original and masterful routing remains, and the result ranked #18 in the “Best Courses In California” list and one of the “50 Best In The West” by GOLF Magazine.
The fully renovated green complexes are established in the latest bentgrass varieties, with all other turf converted to drought-tolerant bermudagrasses. A state-of-the-art irrigation system was installed, and more than 35 acres of land were turned into native areas that require little to no water.

Position Requirement
A Bachelor’s, Associate, or Certification in turf grass management or related experience
Position Summary:
The 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will report to the Course Superintendent to provide daily championship-level golf course conditions. The 1st Assistant will be responsible and assist in daily and long-term course maintenance, leading, overseeing, training, developing, coaching, and assisting the maintenance team and utilizing the newest turf management technologies. Delivering firm, smooth and healthy bentgrass putting surfaces is a priority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leading and assisting the team, assigning daily assignments, providing guidance, training, coaching, and assistance, and ensuring work is completed as expected and promptly.

Assist and manage implementing the agronomic plan and budget for the course and grounds.

Identifying, evaluating, and recommending corrective action for agronomic problem areas, including diseases, pests, and drainage issues.

Assisting in overseeing and supporting the daily set-up and maintenance of the golf course, including routine maintenance, chemical applications, and equipment operations.

Inspect irrigation systems, identify issues, and implement corrective action.

Assisting in the recommendation, evaluation, planning, and implementation of long-term and short-term projects related to renovations, repairs, and care and maintenance of the course.

Assisting in the training of new and existing staff in golf course equipment operations, safety procedures, and the expectations of the Club.

Educating and ensuring the team is aware of and follows safe work practices, and maintaining facilities and equipment that are safe, clean, and organized.
Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):

Golf course maintenance experience, with a proven record of having exceptional course conditions.

Knowledge of pest control products and their applications.

Knowledge of turf chemical and fertilizer products and their applications.

Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.

Have a current state pesticide applicator license or the ability to acquire one.

Understanding of and ability to utilize new golf course software applications. such as

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
