Assistant Superintendent

Position Summary:

Oversees the overall maintenance of the respective 18 holes of the golf course, driving ranges, putting green, chipping green, and all of its entities. Responsible for all training of employees and appropriate equipment as well as to ensure all quality standards and procedures are adhered to. Assures the standards of member services are always maintained at consistent levels. Responsible for entire operation as it relates to the golf course assigned and a staff of 15-25. The Assistant should and will be expected to assist on any golf course at any given time.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

·         Daily golf course set up and initial inspection while using independent judgment in scheduling and daily course conditioning.

·         Supervision of employees.

·         Evaluate daily records.

·         Responsible for employee evaluation, discipline, interviewing and other Human Resources activities as designated.

·         Schedules and conducts safety and staff meetings.

·         Initiates equipment schedules.

·         Inventory Control: chemical, irrigation, fertilizer.

·         Initiates purchase order requisitions.

·         Assists with budget preparation.

·         Performs other course related duties as needed.

·         Training of new and existing employees: Job function, Equipment operation, and Member service standards and departmental information.

·         Fertilizing and chemical: evaluation and usage, and actual application.

·         Final daily course evaluation/inspection.

·         Irrigation supervision and maintenance.

·         Performs other course related duties as assigned.

·         Work closely with supervisor and employees to maintain a positive work environment including communication, training, discipline, and evaluations.

·         Authority to adjust overtime hours as needed per each operation to meet standards of quality upon approval of Director of Golf Course Maintenance.

·         Originates purchase orders for golf course supplies including golf course accessories, chemicals, fertilizers, and top dressing.

·         Constant communication with golf operations to accomplish all tasks required by scheduling needs of each golf course and its operation.

·         Communication with other departments in relationship to events.

·         Interacts with Human Resource Department concerning employee discipline, evaluations, and other related personnel concerns including interviewing and hiring procedures.

·         Evaluation of products and services relative to present and future needs.

Educational Requirements

Education & Work Experience Requirements:

 

·         Associate’s Degree in turf grass management/golf course management or related

field or equivalent experience.

·         General golf course maintenance experience requires knowledge of irrigation, fertilizer application as well as current chemical practices.

·         Florida State Pesticide License Preferred

·         Must have extensive experience with operation of turf equipment

·         Continuing education classes related to golf course maintenance
