Grounds Supervisor/Manager
The City of Ottawa Golf Course is currently recruiting for a Grounds Superintendent. Responsible for the maintenance of the Municipal Golf Course including supervising employees and directing the maintenance of the equipment, facilities and grounds.

Essential Job Functions:
- Designs and directs golf course landscaping, forestry and turf maintenance.
- Recommends and monitors department budget; the requisition and procurement of supplies, equipment to maintain buildings, golf course, golf cart fleet, and offices.
- Ensures proper irrigation, fertilization and environmental procedures and practices are followed.
- Responsible for hiring of personnel, training and assignment; transfer or promotion; conducts annual evaluation of employees and administers disciplinary action, when appropriate.
- Supervises routine maintenance activities on equipment and facilities.
- Maintains accurate pesticide application records in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
- Makes recommendations for long term capital improvement and equipment replacement plans.
- Develop and implement maintenance plans and schedules to ensure the optimal condition of the golf course, greens, fairways, and roughs.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of maintenance staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable safety programs. Provide proper personal protective equipment.
- Oversee irrigation system operations, including programming, maintenance, and repairs to ensure proper watering of turfgrass.
- Monitor turfgrass health and implement pest control and fertilization programs as needed.
- Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance services, equipment repairs, and renovations.
- Implement sustainable turf management practices to minimize environmental impact and reduce water usage.
- Collaborate with the General Manager/Golf Professional and other staff to plan and execute tournaments, events, and course improvements.
Ancillary Job Functions:
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
- Comply with all City ordinances, policies, and relevant state and federal laws. Assist other departments as needed, contributing to the overall success of municipal operations.
Education and Experience: (Combination of education, training, and experience will be considered)
- Minimum three years’ experience in golf course turfgrass maintenance, including one year of supervisory experience.
- Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, irrigation systems, pest management, and fertilization techniques.
- Proficiency in using golf course maintenance equipment and irrigation systems.
- Experience with golf course construction or renovation projects preferred.
- Valid driver's license

Work Environment:
- May occasionally be required to work in confined spaces, or high/dangerous places.
- May be exposed to wet/humid conditions, inclement outdoor weather, vibration, oils, airborne particles/fumes, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents/chemicals, or very loud noise levels

Residency: Regular, full-time employees are required to establish and maintain residency within a driving distance of 35 miles of Ottawa City Hall within one year from hire.
