Position: Assistant Golf Course Mechanic

The Oak Park Country Club, a premier private 18-hole golf and country club in the western suburbs of Chicago, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Assistant Golf Course Mechanic to join our Golf Course Maintenance team. Designed by Donald J. Ross in 1914 and thoughtfully renovated by Rick Jacobson in 2007, our course reflects a long-standing tradition of excellence.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow within the turf management industry while contributing to the upkeep and optimization of a top-tier golf course.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and report directly to the Head Equipment Manager.
  • Assist in the diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of all golf course maintenance equipment, including reel mowers, rotary mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and small engine equipment.
  • Perform regular inspections and adjustments to ensure equipment operates efficiently and delivers superior results on the golf course.
  • Conduct reel and bedknife grinding to maintain proper cutting performance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
  • Monitor and maintain parts inventory and assist in ordering replacements as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment repairs, maintenance schedules, and part usage.
  • Promote safety practices by ensuring all equipment is operated safely and by training staff as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance (golf course equipment experience preferred but not required).
  • Basic knowledge of small engine repair, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Reel and bedknife grinding experience is a plus but not required (training provided).
  • Ability to operate and test various types of equipment, including skid loaders and mowers.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are a bonus.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the turf management industry.
  • Valid driver’s license.
