Assistant Superintendent
“The Cullan” at Mineral Mound State Park is located on the shores of Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky near Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. This 18-hole Michael Hurdzan designed course features Tifeagle ultradwarf greens with Tifway II bermudagrass tees, fairways and rough. Capital project underway in winter 2024/2025 to complete course-wide bunker renovation which will solidify this golf course as one of the best courses in Kentucky. Assists Golf Course Superintendent in all phases of golf maintenance and agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel. Leads staff and performs duties in the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and wetlands on the facility grounds under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent. Leads staff in projects and routine maintenance activities. Calibrates and operates the equipment necessary to apply chemicals and fertilizers. Applies irrigation water in accordance with procedures. Diagnoses irrigation repair needs and performs repairs. Directs, trains, and assists a group of maintenance personnel in the performance of routine care and maintenance work for a golf course. Inspects machinery and equipment to determine their operating condition and repair needs. Purchases supplies for the park and golf course. Performs public relations functions in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent. Prepares operating records and makes reports of park and golf activities. Prepares reports, summaries, and recommendations pertaining to golf course development. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must obtain Kentucky Pesticide Applicator License within six months of employment. The N-18 Pesticide Applicators License required by this position can be obtained by passing the test administered by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Some travel required for turf and department meetings and conferences. Overtime and weekends required periodically. Work is typically performed outdoors. Salary based on education and experience.
Educational Requirements
High School Graduate – An Associate’s degree in plant sciences or a Certificate of Turfgrass Management from an accredited university can substitute for ONE of the required two years working experience.
Experience Requirements
Two years experience working on a golf maintenance staff for a regulation golf course.

Compensation is based on a 37.5-hour workweek, with compensated overtime. 5% salary increase after a six-month probationary period. 11 paid holidays. Voting leave.
