Lockwood Folly is a beautiful community and a Willard Byrd-designed Member Owned and operated Private golf course with 165 Members who also welcomes outside local play. We have a seasoned staff, supportive management structure, and a solid membership. We are looking for a seasoned 2nd Superintendent to work part-time.  Schedule will generally be 11:00 to 3:30 Monday thru Thursday, and every other Friday and weekend, 6:00am to 11:00am. Work Hours are open for discussion with candidates in the interview.

Position Overview: The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will play a key role in maintaining the golf course's pristine condition, ensuring that all aspects of the grounds are properly managed and maintained. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and the 1st Assistant Superintendent, this position involves overseeing course operations, managing the maintenance staff, and ensuring that the course meets high standards for playability, aesthetics, and safety. The 2nd Assistant Superintendent will also assist with the planning and execution of turf management, irrigation, and landscaping projects.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in planning and executing the daily maintenance activities for the golf course, including mowing, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation. 
  • Supervise, train, and manage maintenance staff to ensure efficient and effective work practices. 
  • Monitor course conditions and identify areas that require attention, including greens, fairways, tees, roughs, bunkers, and landscaping. 
  • Assist in the management of the irrigation system, ensuring proper water distribution and maintaining system performance. 
  •  Assist in the application of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.     
  • Conduct regular inspections of the golf course, identifying potential issues related to turf health, equipment performance, or staff needs.     
  • Communicate effectively with golf course staff, members, and guests to ensure positive experiences     
  • Assist in budgeting, purchasing, and cost control to maintain the golf course's operations within the allocated budget.

Educational Requirements

  • Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field (or equivalent experience) desirable but not mandatory for applicants.

Experience Requirements

  •  Minimum of 5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, preferably with experience in a supervisory or leadership role. 
  • Strong knowledge of warm season turf-grass management, experience withToro irrigation sprinkler heads and Rain Bird Central Control  and Irrigation Pump Station operation.   
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, especially during peak seasons.    
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.    
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 
  •  Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of golf course quality.

Special Requirements

  • Current North Carolina Drivers License
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.   
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed.   
  • Ability to work long hours on foot and operate various agriculture equipment
