The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent-In-Training (AIT) is an entry level position for individuals seeking management careers in golf course maintenance. The position is designed to provide the individual with experience and training directed specifically towards preparing them for promotion to an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position. The AIT performs a broad range of maintenance activities including but not limited to equipment operation, agronomic product applications, special projects, limited supervision, and administrative and record keeping duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of general business administration practices as applied to golf course operations practices and procedures as would be acquired through education
- Working knowledge of golf course operations and practices necessary
- A Degree, Certificate or multiple seasons in Turfgrass Management
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- As requested, assist the Director Golf Course Maintenance Operations and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent I & II with interviewing, training, scheduling and review of performance for the Golf Course Maintenance staff members
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of all tasks relevant to the Application Foreman, Irrigation Foreman, Equipment Operator I, II, III & IV positions, Landscape Gardener I, II, III and IV positions, Irrigation Technicians I, II, III & IV positions, and the application technician position
- Must have a thorough knowledge of proper care and operation of all maintenance equipment and must be able to perform any task associated with maintaining the golf course or equipment
- As requested, assist with training staff on proper equipment operation, established procedures and techniques so that staff are aware of how to properly perform assigned tasks
- Have, or the ability to obtain a valid Certified Applicator's License that is registered in the same state as the golf course operation
- Assist with promoting and enforcing safety practices in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Assists in the training of employees in safety procedures and internal procedures
- Assist in ensuring daily department tasks and duties are completed; communicates recommended changes as needed to supervisors
- Ensure the overall organization and cleanliness of the golf course, equipment and maintenance facility
- Assume the duties of the Irrigation Foreman, or Application Foreman as required
- Assist with special repairs or modifications projects as needed
- Communicates on a regular basis via a 2-way radio system
- Required to wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with established safety operating standards
