Overview:

Mendon Golf Club is seeking a Head Golf Course Superintendent responsible for the maintenance of our top rated Private 18-hole golf course and associated property.  We have a modern maintenance facility with up-to-date equipment and a computerized irrigation system. The office and employee areas are spacious.

Salary:

$ 100,000 - $ 115,000 based on experience and qualifications.

Job Description:

At Mendon Golf Club you will have a great deal of independence. 

You should be a motivated and detail-oriented individual who takes pride in their work.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomic operations, cost control, and staffing.
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs trees and trees.
  • Responsible for all aspects of maintenance, development and care and replacement of all property, including but not limited to the golf course equipment and buildings, including the pro shop, clubhouse and all other grounds and equipment.
  • Develops and adheres to the annual operating budget prepared by the Superintendent and Ownership.
  • Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals, and fertilizers.
  • Manages water usage and irrigation systems and provides annual reporting on water source usage.
  • Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Head Golf Professional and ownership on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
  • Hire, train, direct and supervise his staff of employees and volunteers of the Club so they perform their duties in an efficient, safe, and exemplary manner.
  • Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff are working within OSHA, club safety, state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
  • Coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.

Educational Requirements

  • 2-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management (or related field, like agronomy, horticulture, plant science, soil science).
  • Computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Valid New York State Pesticide Application License.

Experience Requirements

3-5 years’ experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant.

Special Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern maintenance practices of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers. 
  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.
  • Skilled in recruiting, hiring, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.
  • Interpersonal skill to resolve challenges with employees and members.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play.
  • Ability to anticipate issues with labor, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Ability and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greens.
