Equipment/Shop Manager

Job Summary:

As a Golf Course Mechanic at Chickasaw Country Club you will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning, maintenance, and repair of all equipment typically found on a golf course. Your expertise and skills will contribute directly to the overall golfing experience for our members and guests, as you keep the equipment in top-notch condition, promoting efficiency and safety across the facility.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.  May give guidance and direction to a segment of the team in the absence of the Director of Agronomy or Superintendent.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on all golf course equipment, including but not limited to golf carts, mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and company vehicle.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical issues, electrical problems, and equipment failures. Develop efficient solutions to ensure minimal downtime and operational disruptions.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to extend the lifespan of equipment and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, fluids, and other necessary supplies. Ensure stock levels are adequate to support ongoing maintenance requirements.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance and repairs. Promote a culture of safety among the golf course staff.
  • Record Keeping: Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts replacements using appropriate documentation and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Equipment Upgrades: Stay updated with the latest advancements in golf course equipment technology. Recommend and implement equipment upgrades when appropriate.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and guidance to golf course staff on proper equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Budget Management: Work within budget constraints for maintenance-related expenses. Provide input and recommendations for budget planning regarding equipment upgrades and replacements.
  • External Support: Coordinate with external equipment vendors or service providers for specialized repairs and maintenance, if required.

Educational Requirements

Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience desired.

Experience Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment. 
  • Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in a golf course setting or related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and expertise in repairing and maintaining various golf course equipment, including small engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with different types of golf course equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues effectively.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and practices relevant to equipment maintenance.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Special Requirements

Requires a valid driver's license and maintains a “satisfactory” driving record.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to bend, sit, stretch, push, pull, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and may require lifting  and carrying heavy equipment, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Team member will be routinely exposed to moving mechanical parts
