Job Overview

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our bentgrass production fields, ensuring optimal growth, quality, and delivery standards. This role requires a combination of agronomic expertise, strong leadership, and operational efficiency to meet the high expectations of our clients.

 


Key Responsibilities

Farm Operations Management

  • Develop and implement agronomic programs for bentgrass, including fertilization, pest management, irrigation, and mowing schedules.
  • Oversee the planting, maintenance, and harvesting of sod to ensure consistent quality standards.
  • Monitor soil health and perform regular testing to maintain ideal growing conditions.
  • Manage water usage and irrigation systems to optimize growth and sustainability.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure all team members adhere to safety and operational protocols.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.

Equipment & Facility Oversight

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and in proper working condition.
  • Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Identify and implement new technologies or equipment to improve efficiency.

Business & Client Support

  • Collaborate with sales teams to ensure customer orders are fulfilled on time and to specification.
  • Work with leadership to develop budgets, track expenses, and ensure profitability.
  • Conduct tours and maintain relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Science, Horticulture, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in sod farming, turf management, or related agronomic fields.
  • Strong knowledge of bentgrass varieties and their unique maintenance needs.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, agricultural machinery, and modern farming techniques.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

 


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and operate machinery as required.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Science, Horticulture, or related field (preferred).
