Assistant Superintendent

Columbine Country Club is looking for a dedicated and experienced First Assistant Superintendent to join our agronomy team. This crucial role focuses on maintaining and improving the Championship course, Par 3 course, and the entire club’s grounds to ensure exceptional quality and playability. This position works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Grounds to execute comprehensive management plans for all facets of the property.

About Columbine Country Club: 

Columbine Country Club is an esteemed private club located 12 miles south of downtown Denver, featuring a championship 18-hole golf course and a 9-hole Par 3 course. The Championship Course, initially designed by Henry Hughes, was thoughtfully remodeled by Rees Jones completed in 2020 to improve both its playability and visual appeal. The Par 3 course, designed by von Hagge, Smelak, and Baril in 1999, is a walking-only, links-style course that allows members to fine-tune their short game. It also serves as the foundation for our nationally recognized junior golf program. Beyond golf, Columbine Country Club is a neighborhood family-oriented club, offering a wide range of activities for all ages. From our pool and tennis courts to our fitness center, dining options, and vibrant social calendar, we are committed to providing a "complete country club experience" that the entire family can enjoy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing all golf course maintenance practices.

  • Supervise and train grounds staff to ensure exceptional course conditions.

  • Perform and oversee the application of fertilizers and pesticides in compliance with regulations, ensuring accurate record-keeping of application logs

  • Monitor course conditions, including turf health and irrigation systems, and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Ensure proper operation and calibration of maintenance equipment.

  • Collaborate on budget planning, inventory management, and equipment maintenance schedules.

  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Grounds and Superintendent on renovation and improvement projects.

  • Assume duties of Golf Course Superintendent as needed.

Turf Types:

Greens, Tees and Fairways - Poa Annua/Bentgrass mix

Rough - Kentucky Blue Grass/Rye Grass Mix

Irrigation System: Toro Lynx central control

Staff: Total 30 in season

Educational Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or a related field.

  • Colorado pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science, and irrigation systems.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Passion for golf and a commitment to delivering a world-class member experience.
