Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Golf and Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a critical role in ensuring Freestone’s championship golf course, world-class 10-hole short course, and surrounding club grounds are maintained to the highest standards.  This individual will assist in all aspects of course maintenance, operation, and improvements, fostering an exceptional experience for members and their guests.

As a hands-on leader, the Assistant Superintendent will help manage and inspire a dedicated agronomy team to uphold Freestone's reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in daily maintenance and operations of the golf course and club grounds.
• Supervise and train team members to ensure high standards of performance and safety.
• Oversee chemical and fertilizer applications, maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Manage and maintain the irrigation system to ensure optimal turf health.
• Monitor turfgrass conditions and implement solutions for consistent playability.
• Participate in construction projects, enhancements, and ongoing improvements to the course.
• Communicate effectively with the Golf Course Superintendent regarding course conditions, team performance, and project status.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment, promoting collaboration and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 4 years in golf course maintenance (assistant superintendent or similar role preferred).
• Expertise in warm- and cool-season turfgrass management.
• Knowledge of pest control products, fertilizers, irrigation systems, and turf equipment.
• Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Understanding of the game of golf and golfer expectations for course conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License in Texas

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary:  $85,000-$95,000
