Assistant Superintendent

The Butte Country Club (BCC) is looking to add the position of another Assistant Superintendent to our maintenance team.  The Assistant position will have a strong emphasis on the adjustment, operation, troubleshooting and repair of the irrigation system.  The Butte Country Club strives to provide members with a high quality product on a daily basis.  Capital improvement projects, such as the recent completion of an Irrigation System Replacement aids in our maintenance efforts.  System highlights include: wall to wall irrigation, VIH sprinklers, 2-Wire controls, HDPE piping, New pump stations, and most up to date Central/mobile software.  The Butte Country Club, located in Butte Montana, is the oldest Club in the state, established in 1899.  Located in the mountains of Southwest Montana, Butte has a rich and colorful history, abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities, and is a great community to call home.    

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.  Under the Superintendents supervision, the assistant superintendent participates in all maintenance of the golf course; tees, greens, fairways, roughs, cart paths, etc.  Supervises the maintenance staff; and does related work as required.  The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his absence.

Typical Functions:

Daily planning, management, and supervision of the golf course maintenance crew

Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment.

Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment

Assists in all chemical applications and/or operates and calibrates chemical application equipment

Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems

Adjusts, troubleshoots, and repairs irrigation system

Assists in inspection, diagnosis and repair of mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including diesel, electric, and gasoline powered equipment

Instructs and or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventative maintenance, the proper cleaning, and safe operation of equipment

Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance

Assists with preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies

Educational Requirements

Formal Education in Turfgrass Management or Horticulture preferred, but not necessary

Experience Requirements

3 to 5 years of golf course maintenance experience

1 Year minimum Experience operating, adjusting, troubleshooting and repairing modern golf course irrigation system 

1 Year minimum Supervisory experience

Good communication and team work skills

Possession of a valid drivers’ license

Job Benefits

$50,000/year DOE with competitive salary based on Industry averages and experience
