Position Title:      Turf Management Internship

 

General:

The main focus of the program will be the general welfare of the intern through the club’s provisions of a safe and educational work environment.  Under the direct supervision of the director of agronomy and golf course superintendent, the intern will perform routine manual labor associated with golf course maintenance accompanied by turf management focused training.  General labor will involve semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operating small hand powered equipment, and occasionally performs work involving larger equipment such as tractors, loaders, and gang mowers.  As an intern, you may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the golf course and does related work as required.  

 

 Responsibilities and Areas of Training:

·        Operate a variety of mowing equipment within diverse locations

·        Turf management principles and turfgrass physiology

·        Irrigation systems management

·        Water management of Annual Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass

·        Course set up

·        Tournament preparation

·        Equipment maintenance

·        Pesticide and fertilizer applications

·        Daily course maintenance

·        Pest and disease identification

·        Environmental conditions and awareness

·        Golf course projects and renovations

 

Requirements:

·        Currently enrolled in a 2 to 4 year degree/certificate program in turfgrass management or a related field, or strongly considering this profession

·        Ability to follow oral and written directions

·        Must possess a positive attitude, great work ethic, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a thorough attention to detail

·        Punctual and reliable

·        Physical strength, stamina, and agility

 

Minimum Experience:  0-1 year

 

Salary:  $17.00/hr.

 

Internship Dates:  Beginning of March until the end of September, 3 to 7 month duration internships are available.

Educational Requirements

HS diploma or equivalent is required

Must be currently enrolled in a 2 to 4 year degree/certificate program in turfgrass management or a related field, or strongly considering this profession

Experience Requirements

0-1 year in landscaping, turf management, agronomy, or related field
