Assistant Superintendent

Philadelphia Country Club is a private country club located just outside the city of Philadelphia. We are a 27 hole facility; The Spring Mill course is a William Flynn design consisting of Bentgrass greens, tees and fairways. Spring Mill and Centennial ranges have a combined total of 3 Bermudagrass tees and 1 Bentgrass tee. In addition to golf the club has 9 Har-Tru tennis courts, recently added 8 platform tennis courts and 2 pickleball courts. We also have a large resort style pool and a shooting lodge. Philadelphia Country Club has hosted the 1939 U.S. Open, 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur and co-hosted the 2005 U.S. Men’s Amateur. In 2026, we will be co-hosting the Men’s U.S. Amateur. Assistants will work closely with the Superintendent on every aspect of the daily operation of the course. Assistants will be involved in course setup, applying and record keeping of plant protectants, scouting, moisture, and crew management. Working at Philadelphia Country Club will provide the right candidates the opportunity to learn and advance their career in the turfgrass industry.

Educational Requirements

Completion of a Certificate or 2-4 year turfgrass program

Experience Requirements

Previous golf course experience. This would be an ideal position for a recent turf graduate.

Special Requirements

The Philadelphia Country Club has begun a 2 phase restoration/construction project on the Spring Mill course that started in May 2023. Construction includes a complete Toro irrigation with Toro Lynx Cloud accessibility, new Pumphouse, Better Billy Bunker install in all bunkers, complete rebuild and regrassing of greens to USGA specifications; Bentgrass cultivars are CoHo, Piranha and Luminary. Phase 2 was started in August 2024, restoring the back 9 and renovation of practice areas. The back 9 is set to open May 2025 and practice areas in June 2025. In Spring 2025 we will be renovating and regrassing our chipping practice area. Assistants will be involved in all aspects of the construction and regrassing. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable grow-in experience and care for seedlings.
